Residential Structure Fire 2/11/2018
***PRESS RELEASE*** RESIDENTIAL STRUCTURE FIRE Turlock City Fire Department was dispatched to reports working residential structure Fire in the 200 block of Angelus Street on February 11, 2018 at 5:59 a.m. Upon arrival, fire crews found a single family residence with heavy smoke issuing from multiple doors and windows as well as a large fire near the rear of the house. While Turlock City firefighters were deploying hose lines and setting up for fire attack, a flashover occurred inside the residence which spread heavy fire throughout the living area and attic spaces. An offensive fire attack was initiated and large amounts of fire from the exterior were knocked down before moving to an interior fire attack. Interior Crews got a knockdown on the fire in main living area of the home and completed a search of the residence, but crews were forced to exit the structure and transition to defensive tactics due to heavy fire involvement in the attic and deteriorating structural stability. Once in a defensive mode, fire crews worked to extinguish the fire from the exterior of the structure. The fire was brought under control and contained to the residence. Fire Chief Robert Talloni stated, “One of the greatest dangers in firefighting is the threat of a building collapse. Residential collapses have tripled since the 1980’s. The structural integrity of this building was a great concern.” The home was occupied at the time of the fire and all occupants escaped to safety prior to the Fire Department’s arrival. No injuries were reported. Four occupants have been displaced as a result of the fire. Turlock Fire Department responded to the incident with three engine companies, Squad 32, the Fire Chief, and the Fire Marshal. Modesto Fire Department’s Chief 2 and one Engine Company from the Ceres Fire Department also responded to the incident as part of a Resource Sharing Agreement. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Any inquiries regarding this incident should be directed to Fire Marshal Mark Gomez at 209 669-2119. All media and news inquiries can be addressed by contacting Turlock Fire Department’s Public Information Officer Kevin Tidwell at (209) 216-6455. #Turlock #TFD #PressRelease
