PRESS RELEASE: Suspect Arrested for Unlawful Sex with a Minor

On Thursday, June 20, 2019, at approximately 11:30 a.m., officers arrested Marissa Ann Groves, a 30 year old female from Turlock, for unlawful sex with a minor.

On March 28, 2019, the Turlock Police Department was informed of a possible ongoing sexual relationship between a minor and a group home counselor, formerly assigned to the facility where the minor resides. The sexual relationship was alleged to have started while Groves was working as a counselor at the minor’s placement facility and continued after Groves left to work for another group home employer. The investigation into the allegation was conducted in conjunction with the California Department of Social Services Community Care Licensing Division. Through the course of interviews and evidence collection, Detectives developed probable cause to believe the sexual acts had occurred.

On Thursday, June 20, 2019, Marissa Ann Groves was placed under arrest for unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. She was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center. At this time, there is no information to believe any other minors at any of the facilities where Groves has worked have been victimized.

PRESS RELEASE: Suspect Arrested for Attempted Murder After Eluding Officers

Officers arrested Alexander Araujo, a 24 year old male from Turlock, responsible for opening fire on a security guard in a business parking lot, then eluding officers on foot through neighborhoods.

On Thursday, June 20, 2019, at 10:22 a.m., the Turlock Police Department Dispatch Unit received a call from a security guard reporting a suspicious person with a gun that was attempting to break into a vehicle in the parking lot of the 700 block of W. F Street. While the security guard was on the phone with Dispatch, the suspect fired a weapon in the direction of the security guard and an additional victim.

Immediately, officers saturated the area, followed by detectives and Command Staff who were on duty. The suspect fled the area and began jumping fences, going through residential properties in an attempt to elude officers. A perimeter was set, and at 10:56 a.m., Alexander Araujo was taken into custody.

Araujo was booked in the Stanislaus County Jail for attempted murder in addition to several other weapon related offenses. Additionally, Araujo had several outstanding felony and misdemeanor warrants that he was booked for.

“The response that our officers and detectives had in this incident is a great example of the high level of security that we provide to the citizens of Turlock,” said Chief Amirfar. “In this highly volatile and evolving incident, our Officers, their Sergeant, Detectives, Lieutenants and Captains responded. This was a perfect example of the utilization of all our available resources to ensure the safety of the citizens of Turlock.”

Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call Officer Jake Young (209) 668-1200. You can also contact the Turlock Police Department’s Tip Line at (209) 668-5550 ext. 6780 or email at tpdtipline@turlock.ca.us, if you wish to remain anonymous.
