Is your side gate locked? It should be.

Keep burglars from browsing your back yard when you're least expecting it - lock them out. If you lock your front door, why wouldn't you lock the gate too?

Tips on how to keep your home secure:
1) Put away expensive items out of view (tools, toys, etc.) and lock them in a shed or in your garage
2) Make sure all your doors and windows (front and back of house) are locked when you go to sleep and when you leave your home
3) Get to know your neighbors - they're your eyes and ears when you're not home
4) Install a security system / video surveillance

Last night, Explorers had their last meeting with their Advisor, Jeff Lopes. Jeff has given 32 years to TPD. After retiring as a Captain in 2013, he came back to volunteer. As a volunteer, he took over our Explorer program by tremendously increasing youth involvement through his mentoring, which has given us the largest amount of Explorers we have ever had at one time. Thank you Jeff for everything that you have done for our Explorers, and for the whole department. You will be truly missed. 💙👮🏻&#-48202174;&#x;

Is the door in your garage locked? It should be.

Ensuring all points of entry into your home are locked and secure is important when trying to prevent someone breaking in. The garage man door is known to be an easy point of entry, especially it it's left unlocked. Make sure your home is secure, and make sure your family members are securing their homes too.

Tips to keep your home safe and secure:

1) Install a alarm / video security system

2) Outside lighting - so those burglars can't hide in the shadows

3) Install a motion light

4) Don't leave valuables outside (tools, ladders, toys) - don't tempt someone to take it

5) Get to know your neighbors - they're your eyes and ears when you're not home

Is your shed locked? It should be.

Do you have expensive tools in your shed? Lawnmower, generator, bicycles...things you wouldn't want to get stolen? Lock your shed to prevent a burglar from taking any of your valuables.

Some tips to keep your home safe from burglars:
1) Lock all interior and exterior doors and windows (in front and in back) while you're gone and when you go to sleep.
2) Install a security system
3) Install outside lighting or motion lights to prevent burglars from hiding in the shadows
4) Get to know your neighbors - they're your eyes and ears when you're not home
