PRESS RELEASE: Hit and Run Results in Death of Man and Search for Responsible Suspect and Vehicle

On October 11, 2022, at approximately 3:31 p.m., Turlock Police Dispatch received a call of a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in the 2100 block of Fulkerth Road. When officers arrived on scene, Paramedics with American Medical Response (AMR) were already performing life-saving measures on a male who was in the roadway of the westbound lanes of Fulkerth Road. Despite their efforts, the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Witnesses described the responsible vehicle as a small white car, which was last seen fleeing westbound on Fulkerth Road. Officers assigned to Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) were called to the scene to assume the investigation. The roadway was closed for nearly four hours as officers canvassed the area, gathered evidence, and attempted to locate camera footage. As a result of their investigation, video footage identified the vehicle as a 2000’s model white Acura TL with damage to the windshield and front passenger side.

The deceased male is described as an 83-year-old Hispanic male with a last known address in Modesto. As of this morning, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office are still working on notifying the victim’s next of kin.

M.A.I.T. Investigators are examining evidence and reviewing witness statements in an attempt to determine what transpired during the traffic incident.

Officer Richard Fortado said, “This investigation is a top priority for the Traffic Safety Unit. I ask that anyone who may have information about the identity of the responsible suspect or who may have seen the damaged white Acura TL, to please contact me.”
