Thursday, March 9, 2023PRESS RELEASE: Armed Robbery Case Solved; Suspect Was In Custody on Firearms Possession Charges
On November 23, 2022, at approximately 11:04 p.m., Turlock Police Dispatch received a call of an armed robbery at a business located in the 100 block of East Glenwood Avenue. A victim employee described the responsible as a Hispanic male armed with a handgun. The responsible was last seen running from the business heading east toward an awaiting vehicle.Officers responded to the business and were able to locate surveillance footage of the incident. Officers and Detectives identified Luis Torres, 21 years-old, as a person of interest. At that time, Torres was determined to be a parolee at large and his whereabouts were unknown.
On March 3, 2023, at approximately 9:33 p.m., Turlock Police Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop in Turlock and Torres was contacted as a passenger. During a search of the vehicle, two firearms were located. Torres was arrested and booked in jail for firearms possession and other unrelated charges.
On March 7, 2023, at approximately 5:39 p.m., Turlock Police Detectives were able to follow up on the robbery investigation and positively identified Torres as being responsible for the November 2022 armed robbery. After Torres was interviewed while in custody at the Stanislaus County Jail, he was arrested and re-booked on robbery charges.
Captain Miguel Pacheco said, “I applaud our staff for their determination and the hard work they continue to demonstrate. Our staff is committed to solving these types of violent crimes and holding criminals accountable for their actions. The goal of the Turlock Police Department is to keep our community safe.”
