Monday, April 22, 2024PRESS RELEASE: Wayside Drive Homicide: Victim Identified, Suspect Arrested
Turlock, CA – On April 16, 2024 at approximately 6:58 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Wayside Drive for a report of a shooting that had just occurred. When officers arrived on-scene, they located two (2) gunshot victims and immediately began rendering aid. One of the victims was struck multiple times in the arm and was taken to a Modesto hospital where his injuries were determined to be non-life threatening. The second victim, Amado “Dominic” Escobedo III, 19 of Ceres, was located in the roadway. Despite lifesaving measures, Dominic was pronounced deceased at the scene.Once Turlock Police Detectives were called out to the scene and took over the investigation, they determined that the persons involved knew one another and after a brief altercation, the shooting occurred. Based on the evidence obtained and a thorough investigation, the suspect was identified as a 17-year-old male from Turlock.
On April 22, 2024, Detectives responded to the Stanislaus County Juvenile Detention Center where the suspect was in custody for an unrelated case. Detectives rebooked the 17-year-old for murder and attempted murder charges. On the same day, a search warrant was conducted in the 1200 block of Pioneer Avenue, where Detectives seized evidence related to the investigation.
Detective Blanc said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with victim’s family during this difficult time. We hope the arrest of the suspect starts to bring some sense of closure as they continue to mourn the loss of Dominic.”
