Training Division

Turlock Fire Department has a dedicated training division under the direction of a Chief Officer. It is the responsibility of the Training Division to research, develop, coordinate, schedule and deliver training to all employees. It is the goal of the Training Division to provide our Firefighters with the knowledge, and abilities to safely and efficiently mitigate all emergencies. The Turlock Fire Department is a participant in the Joint Apprenticeship Committee Program, a state agency which certifies firefighters training and education, and a Pre-Hospital Continuing Education provider for our department's EMS program.

Turlock Fire Department Drill Grounds

In 2015, the design and planning to update the Turlock Fire Department drill grounds began. In 2016, after funding through special public safety capital improvement funds had been secured and the designs had been approved the demo started on the old buildings. In 2017, construction began to the 3 story drill grounds building consisting of 8 shipping containers. In 2018, the Turlock Fire Department dedicated the live fire training facility capable of conducting class A burns.

Vertical ventilation prop

The Turlock fire department drill grounds has an articulating vertical ventilation prop. The prop, which was installed in 2019 was built and assembled by Fire Vent LLC. This project was funded with pre-designated capital facility funds as well as grant funding from Modesto Junior College Regional Fire Training Center.

Vehicle extrication

Turlock Fire Departments partnership with local auto wreckers makes the drill grounds a convenient place to conduct vehicle extrication. Kelso’s Auto Wrecking, which is the adjacent property to the drill grounds, supplies a majority of the vehicles for us to train on. They will deliver the vehicles and pick up the cut vehicles after training is over.

The Turlock Fire Department drill grounds has the room and accessibility to host classes. The ability to train on high angle tech rescue, conventional and powered force door props, heavy vehicle lift and stabilization props, interior and exterior stairwells, multi rooms and hallways to advance hose lines and much more.
