On Monday, November 16, 2020, at approximately 3:40 p.m., Turlock Police Officers responded to the 1600 block of Lander Avenue after receiving multiple calls of a shooting that had occurred. The victim, Joel Lopez Guzman, a 39 year-old male from Turlock, had been shot multiple times and later succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a local area hospital.
On Friday, January 1, 2021, at approximately 1:23 a.m., Turlock Police Officers responded to the Venice Motel in the 1100 block of North Golden State Boulevard for a report of an aggravated assault.
On Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at approximately 8:44 p.m., Turlock Police Officers responded to assist the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department on a Be On The Look-Out (BOL) for occupants in a white sedan who were seen shooting outside city limits, in the area of Berkeley Road and Alderson Road.
On May 20, 2020, at approximately 1:00 a.m., Turlock Police Dispatch received a call reporting that someone had been shot in the 4300 block of Cherry Blossom Lane. Officers responded and discovered a deceased male at the scene.
**UPDATE** At approximately 3:20 p.m., the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department Special Investigations Unit (SIU) located Ernesto Covarrubias, Jr. in the area of Mitchell Avenue and East Hawkeye Avenue. He was taken into custody without incident and turned over to Turlock Police Department Detectives.

On Monday, November 30, 2020, at approximately 5:21 p.m., Turlock Police Officers responded to a call of an injury collision in the 1100 block of North Golden State Boulevard.

On Sunday, November 8, 2020, at approximately 5:22 p.m., Turlock Police Officers responded to a call of an injury collision in the intersection of Lander Ave. and Linwood Ave. between a silver Ford SUV and a red Honda Civic. Officers arrived on scene and discovered an 11-year old female patient from the Honda Civic had suffered major injuries, as a result of the crash, and was immediately transported to a local area hospital where she tragically succumbed to her injuries.
On Wednesday, November 4, 2020, acting on a tip received from the Turlock Police Departments Drug Hotline, Detectives from the Turlock Police Department served a search warrant in the 1000 block of S. Tegner Rd. That search warrant resulted in the discovery of nearly 300 individually packaged and processed one-pound bags of marijuana and 17 marijuana plants.
On Thursday, October 22, 2020, at approximately 8:50 a.m., Detectives from the Turlock Police Department served a search warrant in the 3000 block of Village Park Ct. The investigation began back in July of 2020 when Detectives from the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) received an anonymous tip regarding criminal activity and a possible illegal marijuana cultivation at a residence.
Turlock, California – October is National Pedestrian Safety Month and the Turlock Police Department encourages the public to remember that everyone is a pedestrian.
Turlock, California – Despite the risks of phone use while driving, many California drivers continue to violate California’s hands-free cell phone law.
Turlock, California – The safety of everyone traveling is the focus of a grant awarded to the Turlock Police Department. The $60,500 dollar grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) will assist in the Turlock Police Department’s efforts to reduce deaths and injuries on City of Turlock roads.
On Friday, September 25, 2020, at approximately 2:23 a.m., the Turlock Fire Department responded to the 1000 block of N. Olive Ave. for a possible structure fire. Fire crews arrived on scene and discovered a portion of the fence and a tree were on fire in the alley at the 1000 block of Kenwood Ave. The fence was located on west side of the alley, which is within the jurisdiction of Stanislaus County. The fire was extinguished and fire crews cleared the scene. According to a representative with the Turlock Fire Department, the fire began as a debris fire in the alley which spread to the fence and trees.
On Monday, September 7, 2020, at approximately 4:15 a.m., Turlock Police Officers responded to the 200 block of N. Tully Road and discovered a shooting had occurred. The victim, Mario Meza, 26 year-old male from Modesto, had been shot and later succumbed to his injuries while in surgery at an area hospital.
Turlock, California. – September is Pedestrian Safety Month and the Turlock Police Department will join law enforcement agencies across the state to educate the public on how to be safe when walking or driving.
On Monday, September 7, 2020, at approximately 4:15 a.m., Turlock Police Officers responded to the 200 block of N. Tully Road and discovered a shooting had occurred. The victim, Mario Meza, 26 year-old male from Modesto, had been shot and later succumbed to his injuries while in surgery at an area hospital.
On Monday, September 7, 2020, at approximately 4:15 a.m., Turlock Police Dispatch received multiple calls reporting gunfire at a hotel in the 200 block of N. Tully Rd. Officers responded to the scene and located a Hispanic male who had suffered a single gunshot wound. That male was transported to a local area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries during surgery.
Turlock Police Detectives arrested Richard Merrill, a 25 year old male from Turlock, for attempt homicide in the 3400 block of Rochester Court in Turlock.
Turlock, California – On August 24, 2020, the Turlock Police Department will have additional officers on patrol looking for drivers that are violating the state’s hands-free cell phone law.
On August 13, 2020, at approximately 7:53 a.m., Turlock Police Dispatch received a call of an injury collision that involved several vehicles in the area of Highway 99 and West Canal Drive.

On August 4, 2020, at approximately 1:03 a.m., Turlock Police Dispatch received a call of an aggravated assault in progress in the 500 block of Twentieth Century Boulevard.

Turlock, California. – As we approach the 4th of July holiday, the Turlock Police Department encourages the public to be responsible and safe over the Independence Day Weekend by not driving impaired.
On Thursday, October 11, 2018, at approximately 8:55 P.M., Turlock Police Department received a 9-1-1 phone call advising of a drive by shooting that had just occurred in the 300 block of W. Linwood Avenue. The caller stated that two people had been shot. Multiple police officers responded to the scene and arrived within minutes of the initial 9-1-1 phone call. Upon arrival, officers located a young adult male who had sustained at least one gunshot wound. No other injured persons were located. Paramedics, who had been parked nearby when the shooting occurred, quickly arrived on scene, however, the victim had already succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Detectives responded to the scene and took over the investigation. The victim has been identified as Johnny Wilson (18yr from Turlock).
On Thursday, October 18, 2018, at approximately 2:13 A.M., Turlock Police Department received several phone calls advising of a vehicle found stopped near the intersection of Fulkerth Road and Highway 99. The vehicle had obvious signs of having been shot at multiple times. Inside the vehicle, callers located two victims; the apparent driver and his occupant, who were deceased. Multiple police officers responded to the scene and located the victims, both of whom had been shot. Detectives responded to the scene and took over the investigation.
